Project Generations pairs students with older adults in the local community for weekly visits to build intergenerational relationships and recognize elders’ value as community members. The mission of the organization is to enrich older adults’ and volunteers’ lives by bridging the gap between the generations.

Project Generations was founded by a group of students at Ithaca College in the fall of 2010 after forming a close partnership with the Tompkins County Office for the Aging in Ithaca, New York. Cornell University established a chapter in fall of 2011 in collaboration with Ithaca College and the Tompkins County Office for the the Aging. The Tompkins County Office for the Aging and Project Generations have been able to pair over 150 students and older adults in the Ithaca community since the program’s inception.

The University of Maine started a chapter of Project Generations in fall of 2016 through a partnership with the Eastern Area Agency of Aging in Bangor, Maine.
